Pixshot Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 20, 2026
Pixshot is a screenshot tool that runs locally on your PC. We do not operate any server that collects user data, and Pixshot does not collect usage statistics, crash reports or any other telemetry. By default, your screenshots stay on your own computer.
This policy explains what information Pixshot handles, where it is stored, and when it leaves your computer.
1. Information stored only on your PC
All of the following is kept in the local app data folder that Windows assigns to Pixshot. None of it is uploaded to us or to any third party.
- Screenshots and recordings: files you save go to the folder you choose. Screenshot history (the last 100 captures by default, adjustable in Settings) is kept in the app data folder and can be deleted from Settings at any time.
- Settings: your preferences, such as hotkeys, save folder and interface language.
- Watermark records: if you use tracking watermarks, the recipient names you enter and their tracking codes are saved in your screenshot history so you can look them up later.
- AI provider keys: if you set up an AI provider, its API key is encrypted with Windows data protection (DPAPI) and stored on your PC. It is never shown in plain text again.
- License: activation codes are verified offline on your PC.
- Diagnostic log: when a capture is noticeably slow or a hotkey press is not handled, Pixshot records how long each step took on your PC to help diagnose performance problems. The log contains timing data only, never screenshot content, and is never sent automatically.
If you installed Pixshot from the Microsoft Store, Windows deletes its app data folder when you uninstall it. The standalone installer keeps this data on uninstall so your settings survive a reinstall; to remove it, delete the %APPDATA%\pixshot folder.
2. System capabilities used only on your PC
- Screen content: capturing, window detection and screen recording read what is on your screen, only when you start a capture or recording.
- Text recognition (OCR) and one-click redaction: these use the offline text recognition built into Windows and run entirely on your PC without a network connection.
- Microphone and camera: used only during a screen recording, and only if you turn on microphone recording or the webcam overlay. Audio and video are written only to the recording file you save.
- Keyboard and mouse input: if you enable click highlights or keystroke display while recording, Pixshot detects mouse clicks and key combinations to show them in the recording. Ordinary typing, including passwords, is not displayed, logged or stored.
3. When information leaves your PC
Only in the two cases below, and only when you choose to:
Ask AI / Translate
When you click Ask AI or Translate, Pixshot sends that screenshot and your question to the AI provider you selected and configured in Settings (for example Anthropic, Alibaba Qwen, Zhipu, DeepSeek, OpenAI, or a compatible endpoint you entered), using your own API key.
- Screenshots you don't send to Ask AI or Translate are never sent.
- Data goes directly from your PC to that provider and does not pass through our servers.
- The provider's own privacy policy and terms govern how it handles the data. If a screenshot contains sensitive information, consider using one-click redaction before sending it.
Feedback
When you choose Feedback from the About page or the tray menu, Pixshot opens your email app or a feedback form in your browser. The email is pre-filled with your Pixshot and Windows versions to help us investigate. You can review and edit everything before sending, and nothing is sent unless you send it. We use what you send us only to reply to you and to improve Pixshot.
4. Children
Pixshot is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
5. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we will update the effective date above and mention the change in Pixshot's release notes.
